Transient Housing is conceived as a restorative refuge for the truck drivers’ community, a place that offers the comfort and familiarity of home when they are far from their own. Designed as a space for rest, rejuvenation, and recreation, the project responds to the unique rhythms of a life spent in transit. It seeks to create an environment where drivers can pause, recover, and reconnect before continuing their journeys.

The development is organized as a series of dwelling units woven together through courtyards, shaded passages, and shared recreational spaces. These interlinked spaces foster a sense of community and belonging, transforming temporary accommodation into a lived social environment rather than a mere stopover. At the heart of the project is the idea of a collective pause, where open courts and common areas encourage interaction, conversation, and moments of respite. The spatial sequence balances privacy with communal life, allowing residents to retreat into their personal spaces while remaining connected to a larger support network.

Complementing the residential component are a range of ancillary public facilities, including a grooming center, chai shop, departmental store, and ATM. These amenities are designed not only for the residents but also to remain accessible to everyday users, integrating the project with the surrounding community and activating the site throughout the day.

The housing complex is organized as a series of T-shaped dwelling modules centered around private courts. Each unit accommodates 24 drivers, with bunk-bed rooms housing four occupants each, supported by dedicated toilet and bathing facilities. Two such clusters together house 48 drivers at a time. The clusters are separated by a shared recreational zone comprising dining and tea spaces with an open kitchen, allowing drivers to prepare their own meals. Informal leisure areas encourage social interaction through games, conversation, and rest, while the accessible rooftop extends the recreational experience into the evening, offering an additional space for relaxation and gathering.
